THE IMPF NETWORK PROJECT

Technology and Data Collection

(Work Package 5)

2024

Summary

In 2024, a deep analysis of each vendor will be carried out providing, for each of them: (i) an interaction model between IMPF members and vendors, (ii) a in-depth description of the nature and conditions of provided data and (iii) recommendations on data acquisition or strategy, and optionally negotiations with relevant vendors.

Activity

In the context of the Work Package 5 (WP5) aiming on identification and access facilitation of datasets supporting music publishing operations, the five-steps protocol has been completed for both the copyright operation supporting dataset and the digital usage datasets. For both aspects, 2024 activities included analysis, interviews, negotiation with providers and communication to IMPF Members.

From the initial 30 identified providers, and the 5 interviewed ones, IMPF concluded, in 2024, an agreement with the provider of a solution streamlining the access to digital usages on digital platforms and online broadcasters. The agreement grants a lifetime rebate on the subscription fee to IMPF members. The benefit will be introduced to IMPF members during a webinar organized prior to completion of project. In terms of right management related data, it is expected that IMPF carries out discussions with key industry players in the course of 2025 and upcoming years.

Training webinars were held for members throughout the year including an ‘Introduction to Curve’.  An online webinar presentation by SoundCharts will be held in January 2025.  See WP4 for details.

2023

Summary

The EU Project Team continued working on selecting and starting negotiations to acquire data to IMPF’s membership.

Activity

WP5 focused on three main activities in 2023: (i) defining a clear methodology of analysis, (ii) identifying the business needs in terms of data and data related services, and (iii) listing data providers for the various business needs. 26 data/data service providers have been identified. A survey has also been circulated to understand the usage of external data sources by IMPF members.

Outcomes/Next Steps

In 2024, a deep analysis of each vendor will be carried out providing, for each of them: (i) an interaction model between IMPF members and vendors, (ii) a in-depth description of the nature and conditions of provided data and (iii) recommendations on data acquisition or strategy, and optionally negotiations with relevant vendors.

2022

Summary

IMPF surveyed its membership to determine the various data needs of its individual publishers and reached out to relevant data collection tool providers.

Activity

IMPF distributed a Digital and Data Needs survey to members from around the world in July 2022.  The results showed a broad spread of data needs. While the results were clear with respect to playlisting and pitching software, requirements were more varied when it came to network-facing data collection services. The IMPF EU Project team began to determine adequate services that would meet these needs.  Please find the survey link: Digital and Data Needs Survey  N.B. Survey is now closed.
