From your point of view, what is the biggest challenge facing independent music publishers?
As digital royalties are becoming the vast majority of all royalties I think independent publishers are being challenged between local sub publisher relationships and evaluating those relationships in a world where digital music consumption will increase.
What is the biggest opportunity?
I think the biggest opportunity is to evaluate the challenge in question 1 and make a decision for how to collect digital royalties in the most efficient manner for the future. Between 50%-75% of all publishing royalties come from digital consumption and it will only increase.
How do you anticipate the music industry changing over the coming years in terms of what you do?
I think there will be further investment into technologies to provide even better abilities to process, identify, match and pay out royalties more accurately and faster. I also believe AI can play a big part in this in a positive way.
What’s coming up for you that our members should be aware of?
We recently started to work with the IMPEL team to service IMPEL publishers in regions outside of Europe, Middle east and Africa. We are excited to start this partnership and for other publishers to follow.
