From your point of view, what is the biggest challenge facing independent music publishers?
Firstly, continued generation and maintenance of music metadata for a wide range of digital platforms – not only from GDSPs but also from local DSPs in each country – with a high degree of accuracy.
Secondly, creating a system to build and deploy promotions optimized for each area/territory.
What is the biggest opportunity?
If the above challenges are successfully completed, we can expect more hits and income that will surpass the major labels.
How do you anticipate the music industry changing over the coming years in terms of what you do?
Independent publishers and labels will become more active.
Fandom will be more important.
Humanity of artists will be more important than ever in terms of contrast with AI.
How can music publishers best engage with your company in particular to further their own business?
We are looking into the new possibilities for expanding the scope of our copyright management to represent international repertoire in the near future. We feel it is important to have as much information as possible on our business areas, both “copyright management business” and “digital distribution/promotion”, and we welcome input and ideas from IMPF members to establish an effective administration scheme for Japan and pan-Asia.
