IMPF joins international coalition warning Australia against AI copyright carve-out

14th July 2026

IMPF has joined a joint international and Australian rightsholder coalition in urging the Australian Government to reject proposals that would allow AI companies to train on creative works through an “AI Training Permit” and a public benefit fund. In a letter sent to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and key ministers, the coalition warns that the scheme would amount to a text-and-data-mining exception by another name, weakening copyright protections and putting Australia out of step with international standards. The letter, signed by 22 organisations, was submitted ahead of the Prime Minister’s address on AI policy on 14 July.   See the letter here.
